Scottish Doctoral Colloquium in Accounting and Finance

The Scottish Doctoral Colloquium in Accounting and Finance (ScotDoc) has been a core element of doctoral training in accounting and finance in Scotland for the past 17 years. The event will run over one day and include a mix of student presentations and two plenary sessions from staff members. The event will provide postgraduate students with the opportunity to present their work and receive feedback from experienced researchers in the area. Each student will have 15-20 minutes for presentations and around 5-10 minutes for discussion.
The first plenary session will be delivered by Professor Catriona Paisey [University of Glasgow] and will be entitled "Developing a CV to apply for a first academic position". This talk will be informed by relevant research findings on recruitment into academia in accounting and finance, and what heads of department are looking for in new academic staff. This is considered key in preparing the current cohort of PhD students for the transition to their future academic posts. The second plenary session will be delivered by Professor David Power [University of Dundee] who will reflect on his experience as PhD examiner and will address issues around the viva process. This talk will assist students in understanding this fundamental aspect of the PhD process.

The SGSSS was established in 2011 and is the biggest of 14 Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) accredited DTPs in the United Kingdom. The bid for renewed funding has been successful and from 1 October 2017 the SGSSS will be one of the ESRC's 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP).
